Sentry showing modules 9 Months, 1 Week ago
Hi - bit of a problem:

I've created a custom module - nothing too complex just text inviting people to register - obviously that needs to be hidden to Registered visitors.

I enclosed the text with the tags {sentry guest}...text.... {/sentry} unfortunately it is showing the text AND the tags.

RokAccess operated on all content, even modules. There are several hide/show plugins on the JED, but none seem to operate on Modules - since this is based on the old (sadly missed) RokAccess I had hoped this would be THE one!

Hope there's a solution - if there is: 5 Stars - and I see this being one of the must-have plugins out there.... let's face it - who doesn't have the need to show an invitation for guests to register and then HIDE it once they have?

Hmm yeah.. RokAccess was a 1.0 mambot, effectively a System Plugin in J!1.5 parlance. But Content Sentry was written as a Content plugin, so it only works on content.

It could be changed, and I may consider this as a future modification. If you are in dire need for this mod, email me privately and we can discuss an arrangement to cover the time/expense of the change.

You could also install the Place Here content module diebesteallerzeiten.de/blog/module-15/ , move your Custom HTML module content into an article, use the place here module, and then and enable plugins in the place here module.

Hi Chris and 'S',

I have EXACTLY the same issue as "S Hoggard". I might be willing to get in on the action if you're going to discuss an enhancement.

Also Chris, you mentioned the PlaceHere module which is exactly what I'm using and why I'm in the position I'm in now! I use PlaceHere to put an article in the 'right' position on my page, but I also want the article to be editable so I want to include a link to edit the article if the logged-in user is in the correct group.

I don't understand what you mean by "enable plugins" for the module. I've tried your plugin and many others but they simply don't seem to "reach down" into the article inside the module. Can you please explain a strategy that would help me with my issue?

Thanks,
Rob

Rob,

In the Place Here module settings, there's an option to Run Plugins... if you enable this then the module will send the content through the plugins, and ContentSentry will do its thing.

Because Joomla lacks module front-end editing, I also often create a 'Backstage' section/category and then use Place Here to pepper my page module positions with these articles. Then I put a link to these sections/cats in an editor's menu so the site maintainers can edit the content using the usual front-end editor. Okay, so the link doesn't appear alongside the article but there's still a way to get to the articles for editing.

But if you enable plugins in Place Here you can do what you were describing.

Good luck!

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the tip. I had never noticed that PlaceHere option before.

I set the Run Plugins option and even upgraded my Joomla to the latest (1.5.15) but the Sentry plugin doesn't seem to respect the user levels. I added the following tag to my article in an attempt to get the text to only show up for admins and super admins: {sentry administrator}X{/sentry} and then set up your plugin to use specific text in place of 'X'. The text I specify is properly replaced when I'm logged in but doesn't get hidden even if I log out. I've tried all different combinations for but the only setting values I can get to actually cause something to hide is: {sentry !guest}{/sentry} but unfortunately that's having the opposite effect that I would imagine (the hidden text is only displayed if I log out, i.e., I'm a guest user)

Help?

Thanks,
Rob
