If you've ever had to link to your JomSocial content from elsewhere in Joomla!, you probably did a Copy-Link and Paste into your articles, modules, menu items, etc.

What a pain!  I hate it when things are complicated...

So I wrote a plugin for JCE's AdvLink Advanced Link Editor.

Now when you're editing an article (from the front-end or back-end) you can easily create links to your JomSocial content by simply browsing in the JCE Advanced Lnk Editor, just like you can browse the usual items like Joomla! content, menus, contacts, etc.

There are not a lot of options, so configuration is easy and straightforward.  Install using the "Install" option in the JCE configuration.

It's been tested with JomSocial 1.5.243, and your mileage may vary.  I won't try to support anything under 1.5, but if you have problems let me know in the support forums and we'll see what we can do.

The distribution fee for this component is $15 CAD.

$ JomSocial Search Plugin

Well, JomSocial rocks community sites!  Community Builder is pretty good too, but let's talk about JomSocial.

The fine folks there did a fine job, but stopped short of providing a search plugin.  So that means that the usual Joomla! search mechanism can't see into the good stuff your Community is generating, like: photos, videos, discussions, groups, and users.

That's where I got motivated and wrote this search plugin.

Install it, enable it, and make sure it's ordered according to your tastes.  If you place a lot of importance on Community content, put it ahead of the Content search in the plugin order.  Or, if your site is more content oriented, you might want it to come later in the ordering.

There are not a lot of options, so configuration is easy and straightforward.

Yes, tested with 1.6!

It's been tested with JomSocial 1.6.285 & JomSocial 1.5.243, and your mileage may vary.  I won't try to support anything under 1.5, but if you have problems let me know in the support forums and we'll see what we can do.

The distribution fee for this component is $15 CAD.

ContentSentry Plugin

rockettheme_button_100x100The folks at RocketTheme are always up to good stuff.  A while back, they created the RokAccess content plugin, which filters content based on user groups.

Well, it was written for Joomla 1.x but I needed something for a 1.5 site I was working on.

If you were registered, you'd know that the secret to life is:

(Content visible to registered users only.)

I found some instructions by Lukas White to hack the plugin to work under 1.5, but I needed a bit more... so I upgraded the code to a native 1.5 plugin and added some features.

Please note, this plugin is based on the great work by the folks at RocketTheme but this version is a separate project and not related to RocketTheme and their RokAccess plugin.

SevenUp IE6 warning plugin

I trash IE6 tank-topAny web designer worth their salt would agree that IE6 sucks.  It's over 8 years old, it's not supported by Microsoft anymore, and it's just about time we encourage (cajole?) everyone to move on and upgrade.

There has been a movement in the past 6 months to notify web visitors that they're using an out-of-date browser.  Soon YouTube and FaceBook will officially pull their support. And now you can add this feature easily to your own Joomla site.  Just install this plugin, enable it, and boom you have an IE6 warning.

It's based entirely on the SevenUp code by Howard Jonathan.  His project is here on Google Code.

I hate hearing about my clients' sites being slagged because they look like crap in an outdated, standards-flouting, embarrassment for commercial software like IE6.  Let's be done with it!

JoomSEF extension for MorfeoShow

morfeo_logoI love MorfeoShow! Nothing is more elegant and simple to set up galleries, and it offers a wide range of options for formatting, user interaction, and gallery management.

But there were no SEF extensions available so my menu items for MorfeoShow galleries always stuck out and required manual intervention. I hate having to manually intervene with anything!

No fault of the MorfeoShow developers, of course... there's too many SEF options out there, and they already have their hands full taking care of updates to their extensive component.

Well SEF extensions are easy to build, a couple of lines of code... so here it is. Enjoy!  Worked for me with MorfeoShow 07-09-2008 release 1.2.0 and Artio JoomSEF v3.2.3 for Joomla 1.5.8 ... your mileage may vary!

You'll find it in Code Downloads > JoomSEF Extensions
